South Carolina Launches $250 Million Infrastructure Fund to Support Rural Road Projects

State officials are urging rural counties to apply for a new $250 million infrastructure grant program aimed at upgrading roads and public facilities in underserved communities.

The South Carolina Transportation Infrastructure Bank announced an update Monday on the Rural Infrastructure Fund, which will distribute funding over the next 10 years.

Eligible projects must be located in counties with fewer than 115,000 residents, cost between $25 million and $50 million, and offer a clear public benefit.

The deadline to apply is June 13. Projects that meet the criteria will still need approval from the South Carolina Department of Transportation and a state legislative committee before funds are released.

Officials said the program is designed to help smaller communities tackle major road improvements that are otherwise too costly for local budgets.
